“Maggie Mellette was the first First Lady of South Dakota. She and her husband, Arthur Mellette, worked tirelessly to place Women’s Suffrage in the Constitution’s of South Dakota during statehood. She hosted famous Suffragists who toured South Dakota and fought for the rights of women.”
